Female clothing in Ottoman Thessaloniki (1873)

In this rare picture you see the traditional clothing one could find in Salonika, Ottoman Empire. This picture from the The Library of Congress of the USA is dated 1873 and belongs to Pascal Sébah (1823 – 1886), a prominent photographer of Istanbul.

This 1873 picture depicts a married Jewish woman of Salonika, a Bulgarian woman of Prilep and a married Muslim woman of Salonika. Pascal Sébah was a pioneer photographer based on Istanbul and had travel Ottoman Empire taking pictures; either models or scenery. In total there are 13 pictures of his work taken in Salonika.
