Lale Alatlı was born in Istanbul in 1976. She has been living and working in Thessaloniki since 2006. She graduated from Tourism Management Department, Istanbul University and Florence Art and Restoration Institute and the Department of Languages, Literature and Culture of the Black Sea Countries (Philology of Turkish Language) at Democritus University of Thrace.
Apart from her native language Turkish, she has an advanced knowledge of Greek, Italian, English and a high degree of French proficiency. In addition to many years of teaching Turkish Language to foreigners, her wealth of professional experience in translating literary books, websites and various texts (formal and informal), as well as interpretations and subtitle translations helped her progress quickly in her career.
In addition to having provided language interpretation services for Alexis Tsipras, the Greek Prime Minister and the leader of Syriza Party, she is currently involved in interpretation and translation projects in collaboration with various significant bodies including the European Union, The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Lale Alatlı has translated many books from Greek to Turkish. She has been working with the Ministry of Education and Culture in Cyprus, prominent Cypriot authors and both Turkish and international publishing companies.
Coupled with her book translations, Lale Alatlı has been working as a Turkish instructor for over 10 years. Since 2009, she has been a formal examination officer in oral examinations for the State Language Certificate awarded by the Greek Ministry of Education.
Additionally, she has been involved in voluntary work for non-profit organisations whose actions span advocacy for human rights, animal rights and struggle against injustice and inequality (e.g. racism and all types of actions against violence), as well as the field of environment, such as GREENPEACE, WWF, HAYTAP, DEFNE-Greek Turkish Friendship Association.
